Golden Knights Alex Martinez reportedly signed three-year contract extension

It seems that one of the best advocates of free agents will not reach the free market.

According to Frank Seravalli, the Vegas Golden Knights and Alec Martinez are getting closer to a three-year contract extension worth approximately $ 5,000,000 per year.

Martinez, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Los Angeles Kings, was acquired by Vegas ahead of the 2020 trade deadline in exchange for two second-round picks.

With the Golden Knights, Martinez found more offense in his game. He scored eight points in 10 games for Vegas in 2020 after the trade, then added 32 points in 53 games in 2021, which would have put him able to shatter the 39-point career high he set in 2016-17 with Los Angeles.

With Martinez out of the market, there isn’t really a big name, a stoppage advocate available in free agency this summer. Dougie Hamilton remains the top name among defenders, but Seravalli’s top 75 free agent list has Ryan suter, which was recently acquired by the Minnesota Wild as the next best name for a team in need of someone to play a defensive role.
