« Giovinco’s transfer will hurt in several ways »

The loss of Italian striker Sebastian Giovinco, whose transfer to Saudi club Al-Hilal was confirmed on Wednesday night, could hurt Toronto FC.

« Consistency is important to us, so this transfer will hurt in many ways, » said team general manager Ali Curtis in a statement. I have so much respect for Sebastian, who meant a lot to our organization. His departure presents both challenges and opportunities. Obviously, replacing a player like Sebastian will be difficult. But we are confident that we will soon be able to add an exciting new Designate to our squad.

“Seba is every CEO’s dream,” he added. When he came to our organization I was really excited to work with him and get to know him as a player and as a person. ”

The 32-year-old Giovinco was in the last year of a five-year contract and negotiations with Toronto FC had become difficult for a renewal.

“It was a very emotional transaction,” said Toronto FC President Bill Manning. We want to thank Seba for everything he has done for the team. He gave our fans a lot of good times during those four years. He is leaving Toronto as the best player in club history and we wish him and his family nothing less than the best. ”

The principal concerned also took care to greet the supporters of Toronto in a press release.

“I want to thank the fans and my teammates for these four years with Toronto FC,” he said. I also want to thank the team for helping me in this transition to another chapter of my career. ”
