Gareth Bale thinks of returning to Real

Currently on loan at Tottenham, Welsh striker Gareth Bale believes he will return to Real Madrid, where he still has one year of contract, at the end of the season, he announced on Tuesday.

« The main reason why I came to Spurs this year was to play football above all, » he explained before the match against Belgium in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

But with 25 appearances, including 15 as a starter, out of the 48 matches played by Spurs in all competitions since the start of the season, the playing time he has enjoyed does not seem to satisfy the Welshman.

After a debut complicated by physical glitches, he had a more prosperous period recently, scoring 6 goals and managing 3 assists, the space of 7 meetings between mid-February and mid-March.

Without completely ruling out staying in the club that had revealed it, things do not seem, for the moment, to take this turn.

“I wanted to be in good shape to play when the Euro starts. The original idea was to do a year with Spurs and after the Euro, I will have a year of contract with Real. My project is to go back there, that’s all I have as a project, ”he said.

Before his loan, he hardly played for Real anymore, his relationship with coach Zinedine Zidane looking very distant.

Spurs coach José Mourinho also said earlier this month that Bale’s future was in Real hands.

The elimination of Londoners in the Europa League, by squandering the 2-0 first leg against Dinamo Zagreb on the return (3-0, after extra time), which closed one of the possible doors to the Champions League, also complicates a possible financial package to transform the loan into a final transfer.

And on Sunday, placed on the bench at kick-off at Aston Villa, he did not even warm up during the match.

Suffice to say that the international break and the match against Belgium, then a friendly against Mexico and a second playoff match against the Czechs, will be a welcome break for the player.

“I’ve always thought that when everything doesn’t go perfectly in a club, it’s nice to escape, especially mentally, from the club environment,” he commented.
