The Garber Circuit aired the entire 2022 calendar on Wednesday and as announced about three weeks earlier, the campaign will kick off on the last Saturday in February. However, the Montreal team will be in action the next day and then find their supporters at the Olympic Stadium on March 5 by hosting the Philadelphia Union.
The first duel for the Bleu-Blanc-Noir at Stade Saputo will take place in the afternoon, on Saturday, April 16. The Vancouver Whitecaps, the only Canadian team to have reached the playoffs in 2021, will be there for the occasion.
Defending MLS Cup champions New York City FC will be in Montreal on July 30.
New encounters
Each MLS club will play 34 games during the season which ends on October 9: on that day, CF Montreal will visit Inter Miami CF. As in previous years, he will play quite regularly abroad during the first weeks. Thus, a sequence of four games on enemy soil – including one at the NYCFC to start this series – is scheduled from March 12 to April 9.
In addition, from May 22 to June 25, the Quebec team will play four times in a row at Stade Saputo. During this series, there will be the first lifetime presences of Austin FC and Charlotte FC in the Quebec metropolis.
North Carolina’s Eastern Conference expansion team will begin its MLS journey on February 26 against DC United. 74,000 fans are expected for the event, which would set a new league record for attendance.
Two meetings against the rivals
As for the meetings with Toronto FC, they are set for July 16 and September 4, respectively in Montreal and BMO Field. Unlike 2021, more games against Western clubs are on the schedule. This year, CF had played only two games against rivals from this association, but this time they will total six.
After the final games of the regular campaign scheduled for October 9, MLS will hold its three-week playoff schedule, culminating in the cup final on November 5. Two weeks later will begin the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Another date to remember is the All-Star Game, August 10, which will be held at Allianz Field, home of Minnesota United SC.
All CF Montreal duels will be broadcast on one of the TVA Sports antennas.
