FORMULA E – McLaren will replace Mercedes next season

After Formula 1, Indycar, Extreme E and even e-sport, McLaren is launching a new challenge by replacing the title holder of the Formula E championship. The takeover, not yet finalized, should be definitively recorded in a few months according to the British firm.

No change of team leader

For his part, current Mercedes Formula E director Ian James will not step down with the arrival of McLaren : « I look forward to this next chapter for the team and I will be a proud member of it in this ninth season. Until then, we will focus on achieving the best possible results as a team Formula E Mercedes-EQ for the remainder of the current season. »

This is the second entry into this electric single-seater world championship after the arrival of Maserati for next season. This year, Formula E traveled to 10 countries around the world for a total of 16 rounds contested. Next season will also welcome an innovation with the arrival of so-called « Gen3 » cars, with more power.

As a reminder, other major motorsport brands are already part of the paddock, including Porsche, Nissan and Jaguar.
