Formula 1 | Zhou explains his number 24 is a reference to Kobe Bryant

Guanyu Zhou explained that he chose number 24 as the permanent number in Formula 1 in tribute to Kobe Bryant.

F1 drivers are required to pick a number at the start of their F1 career, which they will use throughout their time in the sport.

Bryant, who is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time, spent 20 years in the NBA, winning five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He wore the number 24 on his jersey for the past 10 years with the Lakers, having spent the first half of his career with the number 8.

Bryant and his daughter Gianna died in January 2020 in a helicopter crash.

Zhou says he’s also drawn to the color purple, which he uses on his helmets, in reference to the Lakers.

“I picked 24 basically because of Kobe Bryant. He was a huge inspiration to me as a kid, before I got into motorsport, I watched basketball, he was there with the Lakers. , «  explains the future Alfa Romeo driver.

« I’m a huge fan of him, read all of his stories, how hard he worked even though he was one of the best. »

« He said he would wake up at 4 in the morning to go train, then take his daughters to school, then resume training. »

« It’s pretty impressive when you’re at this level in your sport and always working harder than everyone else. »

“He’s a huge inspiration, so that’s the number one reason behind it. It’s also the reason I like purple a lot and a little bit yellow, thanks to him. That’s a pretty lucky number too. which adds up, 2 plus 4 equals 6, a lucky number for the Chinese. «
