Formula 1 | Young driver tests: Vips and Lawson selected by Red Bull and AlphaTauri

This year, during two free practice sessions on Friday, the F1 teams will have to run rookies (less than 2 Grand Prix experience).
At Red Bull there were a plethora of possible choices, and it was Juri Vips and Liam Lawson who were ultimately chosen, the team announced today. The two drivers finished 6th and 9th respectively in F2 last year and are back for another year.
“It will be Liam Lawson [chez AlphaTauri]and it is a decision of Red Bull” Franz Tost also specified to several media including Nextgen-Auto.
“The drivers are Vips and Lawson, I believe Vips will drive for Red Bull and Lawson for AlphaTauri” he detailed.
Does that mean Lawson or Vips are on pole to possibly replace Gasly or Tsunoda at AlphaTauri next year?
“We will then see what the next steps will be for him” kicked Franz Tost into touch.
Is he also delighted to inherit Lawson rather than Vips in his team?
“Liam drove with us in testing last year in Abu Dhabi and he did a good job. »
Daruvala, Hauger and Iwasa on the sidelines
Several drivers will appear disappointed with this decision: Daruvala (although better ranked than Lawson last year), but also the promising Dennis Hauger, who arrives in F2 at Prema after winning F3 last year (he will also team with Daruvala).
Ayumu Iwasa, Honda’s protege in F2 and who will drive for DAMS this year, is also sidelined.
In short, two teams in F1 is not enough to keep all the young people in the Red Bull industry rolling!
