Max Verstappen being practically already crowned world champion, what can we expect from this end of the 2022 season? Between places for the podium, Frenchmen in the Top 10 and possible surprise victories, there is still a bit of suspense despite everything!

Only six Grands Prix from the end, Max Verstappen is well ahead of the standings and should go for a second consecutive world championship title without too many problems. In a season already played out in advance, it is difficult to see any sporting interest, but some drivers could take advantage of it to prepare for the future. For his part, the Dutchman can hope to achieve a record season if he continues at this pace. Winner eleven times this season, including five consecutively, Verstappen no longer has the pressure Championship on his shoulders and can perform feats.

A record season for Verstappen?

With six races still to go, Max Verstappen can achieve a record season this year since he already has eleven victories, a record equaled with Lewis Hamilton in 2018. During this famous season, the Briton then broke the record for the number of points, with 408. Verstappen currently totals 335 points at the top of the Championship and if he were to win three races, for example, by the end of the season, he would exceed that total. With a more than comfortable lead in the general classification, he has long since settled the suspense. This year, he is stronger than the others, that’s all. Far behind, Charles Leclerc is the only driver who has won more than once this year and is fighting to hold on to second place, more than 100 points behind the Dutch leader.

End of season surprises?

With the pressure totally removed from his shoulders, Max Verstappen could let go a little bit and some pilots could take advantage of it to bring back the best possible result. Charles Leclerc, first, must prove that he can be a serious contender for the final victory for next year, as he did at the start of the season. If the suspense for the title of world champion is now over, surprises can happen at the end of the season with the presence of new drivers on the podium. The battle for second place will rage on but Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly can dream of a podium for example. The fine recovery after the summer holidays is encouraging and Ocon is the first pilot among those who do not yet have a podium. Finally, Lewis Hamilton is aiming for its first victory this season. If he doesn’t win, it will be the first time since 2007 that he hasn’t.
