Formula 1 | Webber: Red Bull lost very important points in Melbourne
With three retirements recorded in three Grands Prix contested, including two for Max Verstappen alone, Red Bull did not start the season in the best way and already has a significant delay on Ferrari in the two championships.
Mark Webber, who drove for the Austrian marque from 2007 to 2013, believes his former team could struggle to compete with Scuderia this year if they don’t quickly address their reliability issues.
« We saw in Bahrain an unacceptable double abandonment for a reigning world champion team, » said the former F1 driver.
« Of course they have the speed. They are strong but weren’t strong enough to win in Australia. Then the bleeding started, 18 points flew away, very important points. »
« And Leclerc added a new victory and a new best lap to his personal record, it’s complicated for Red Bull. They are not in a crisis situation yet but these lost points could weigh in the balance. »
« We also have to mention AlphaTauri. They too had a rocky start with reliability, with issues in Bahrain and Jeddah, so there is something not working somewhere. »
« Red Bull are going to have to work very hard in Milton Keynes. They won’t hesitate to do it day or night. But I’m telling you, the Prancing Horse is off to a great start and is on a roll. »
