Formula 1 | Perez climbs from 11th to 4th place in Qatar

Sergio Perez narrowly missed a podium in Qatar. The Mexican had to settle for 4th place after Red Bull wanted to play it safe with their pit stops. Fernando Alonso, who led the race from the start, was able to keep third place on the podium.

Perez had to start from 11th place on the grid after failing to enter Q3 yesterday in qualifying.

“We managed to overtake a lot of cars, but probably not enough. We were discussing a single stop, a double stop, I think we were concerned about the tire explosion. It is a good result for the ‘team. »

Indeed, there were several punctures during the race, including one from Valtteri Bottas. The Finn retired, allowing Red Bull to come back 5 points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ championship.

« It was a very demanding race, it was full throughout the race. Not easy, we were pushing hard. I think the virtual safety car prevented us from being on the podium and facing Fernando, unfortunately. Five point difference among the manufacturers, so there is still a lot of work to be done. «
