Formula 1 | Michael Masi was more talked about in a week than the rest of the year

Ipsos used its Synthesio social listening tool to analyze online conversations in France regarding the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Nearly 2 million posts have been identified since the start of the year: what are they talking about, and who are the champions the most commented on by the French?

The 3 Grands Prix that generated the most online exchanges this year are the controversial final in Abu Dhabi (60.5 K mentions), the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, for its first edition (30.6 K mentions) , and the Hungarian Grand Prix (26.4 K mentions), the only race won by a Frenchman (Esteban Ocon) this season!

Who is the champion who stands out among Internet users? Despite his defeat in the F1 World Championship, Lewis Hamilton is the most discussed driver of the paddock in France (403.9K mentions), with a peak following his ennoblement by Prince Charles on December 15.

Next are Verstappen (233.5 K), Perez (196.4 K), Alonso (100.4 K) and Bottas (86.7 K).

The race director Michael Masi has been talked about more in a week than in a year! Indeed, since a series of controversial decisions on his part, following the accident of Nicholas Latifi, during the final in Abu Dhabi, Michael Masi has generated more than 5.2K mentions between December 12 and 20. That’s almost as much as since the start of the year, with 4.6K from the start of the season until December 11.
