Mercedes chief strategist James Vowles will drive a McLaren in the Asian Le Mans Series. Vowles will trade his seat on the pit wall for a racing seat when he takes part in the Asian Le Mans Series this month.
Driving the #59 Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3, he will form an all-new duo alongside Nicolai Kjærgaard and Manuel Maldonado, with Maldonado winning the MP3 class last year.
The schedule allows Vowles to compete in both rounds of the ALMS (four races) before resuming work with Mercedes when the 2022 F1 season kicks off in March.
« I’m really happy with the line-ups we have for the Asian Le Mans Series, » said Garage 59 Team Principal Andrew Kirkaldy.
“We are all looking forward to driving the McLaren 720S and hopefully getting our first win of the season. Of course it will also be helpful to have one of F1’s best strategists in our team.”
The ALMS will start at Dubai Autodrome on February 13 with two races and end on February 20 at Yas Marina Circuit with two more races.
