Returned to the calendar last year as the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna, Imola could settle there permanently. This year, the race was the second on the calendar and gave birth to a beautiful show in the rain and in the cold.
A financing agreement has been found so that the race will keep its place in the longer term, until 2025. The government has decided to participate to the tune of 12 million euros per year, the region would give five million, a company private sector would add two million, and the Automobile Club d’Italie (ACI) would give one million.
« I thank the Prime Minister and his ministers for the teamwork which allows us to achieve this objective, which was anything but obvious » said Stefano Bonaccini, the president of the Emilia-Romagna region.
« We are now close to a historic decision and after the decisive step taken by the government, we can finally announce it. After two experimental editions of the race, a GP at Imola can become a regular fixture. »
The decision now rests with Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, and Angelo Sticchi Damiani, President of ACI. If the two sign the deal, Imola will return in the next four seasons.
« I hope they will sign the multi-year agreement » Bonaccini continues. It will then remain to find how to organize all these races, since Miami and Qatar have recently signed multi-year agreements with F1, respectively from 2022 and 2023.
