Formula 1 | If Piastri does not make it to F1, F2 drivers are ‘wasting their time’

Mark Webber is today the career manager of Oscar Piastri, reigning F2 champion, and future Alpine F1 reserve driver. Although his colt will not have a place in Formula 1 next year, the former driver believes he will eventually get there, otherwise it will be pointless to go to Formula 2.

« You can imagine that he will succeed, otherwise everyone in Formula 2 and Formula 3 is wasting their time » explains Webber.

« If you have someone doing what Oscar did, what’s the point in doing what they did if you don’t get promoted? »

But Webber wants to be confident about Piastri and his future: « I think it’s a question of ‘when’, not of ‘if’. I don’t want to be arrogant, but it has to be like that. »

Webber relies on the ladder of promotion formulas leading to F1, but also on the awareness that F1 – as well as its CEO – of the need to promote the best junior elements: « The system works and I know Stefano Domenicali agrees. »

« He knows that Oscar absolutely needs to reap the rewards of his success in the junior categories, and obviously Alpine and all the junior categories know that this is something that needs to be sorted out. Oscar should be, and will be, the first to come out. rank when the market opens. «
