On the final day of F1 winter testing, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner thinks it’s still impossible to predict everyone’s form for the coming year, but selected several teams as potential suitors.
“I think the only thing you see is every time the Ferrari is on track it looks competitive.
« The McLaren, when it’s running, also looks competitive. Mercedes, I think, haven’t shown all their cards yet but their car looks a bit difficult to drive. But there are surprises too, like Williams’ pace on the long stints, which seems quite competitive, so the pecking order is impossible to predict. »
And Red Bull? Horner does not move forward: in 2021, the Austrian team had flown over winter testing and then lost to Mercedes in the first race.
“We were quite happy with testing last year and then Mercedes came back to race one and won it and were very competitive, so it just shows that testing is just testing.
« There are no points for the six days of testing, they will be awarded in a week at the Bahrain Grand Prix and I think, especially with these new regulations, it is very, very difficult to predict who will will have much or little. »
