Formula 1 | Hamilton ‘gave everything’ behind ‘too fast’ Ferraris

Hamilton gave 'everything'...

Lewis Hamilton scored his third podium of the season, his second in a row, at the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes F1 driver rode in an attacking race to claim third place and the fastest lap in the final loop, after intense battles against Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Pérez.

“I must first thank this audience, which has been so large, thank you for this incredible support, it is the best group of fans that you can see” said Hamilton, in front of his fans. « I gave it my all today, tried to chase the Ferraris. »

« Congratulations to Carlos, they were too fast for us. There was also the battle with Checo but they were too fast on the straights. A big thank you to the team, we took a big step forward, we will continue to attack. »

The seven-time world champion then returned to his second part of the race, during which he chased the Ferraris. The end of the race was more delicate, because he had to give in to Pérez and struggled to overtake Leclerc definitively.

« We lost a bit of time during the stop, and I was pushing to come back up, but the pace was good on both tire compounds. But at the end it was tough, I had the Red Bull behind and she was very fast on the straight, so we have to improve! »

He is pleased with his result and salutes the fact that Guanyu Zhou and Alex Albon were not seriously injured at the start: « It’s a big bonus to be on the podium and I’m happy that everyone is safe and sound after the big accident at the start. Thank you all, we will continue to give our all. »
