Formula 1 | Haas F1 may have had its best weekend in Qatar
The Haas riders once again occupied the back of the field today at Losail, finishing sixteenth and eighteenth respectively in the Grand Prix. Mick Schumacher edged out George Russell’s Williams after he had a puncture at the end of the race, but the American cars were not so far from the Williams and Alfa Romeos in race pace.
The young German is satisfied with his weekend and believes he has done the maximum today.
« It was good and we can be happy with what we achieved today. We applied the strategy that was in place and worked well. The start was pretty good, we passed Latifi. The car was performing well. and we were in the right window. «
“We were close to the Alfa Romeos which was not a surprise for us, but it was not the case at the start of the season. This is due to our teamwork, our good understanding of the car and our ability to work with what we have. We still manage to extract new things and progress. «
After having driven very little this weekend during free practice, Mazepin did not do a miracle without having to be ashamed of his performance.
“We started on medium tires before moving to soft, and I had a lot of understeer in the first stint. My lap times were pretty good in the last one. I wasn’t handling my tires like this was the race but like in qualifying, understanding the track better and better after each covered lap. «
« It was a very hot race. Our main focus was on doing laps and maximizing. Clearly not the easiest race but it’s one more circuit that I won’t have to experience next time. »
Günther Steiner, for his part, is smiling after the Grand Prix, considering it to be his team’s best race this season.
“It was one if not the best race we have done this year. Both of our drivers did a good job, Mick was fighting with the Williams and Alfa Romeos which was unexpected. We didn’t manage to do them. beat but we were in a fight with them which was good for the whole team to see. «
« Nikita also did a very, very good job during the first part of the race because he had only covered 15 laps so far during the weekend without ever having driven a lot of gasoline and he was in the rhythm. the Williams having stopped earlier and using a different strategy, things got complicated but we fought. «
