Formula 1 | Haas F1: Magnussen is a ‘challenge’ to Schumacher

After a year battling Nikita Mazepin, Mick Schumacher faces Kevin Magnussen this year. A different challenge for the 2020 F2 champion, who sees the other Haas F1 driver display an impressive level for his return to the discipline.

« He has to work very hard to reach the level of Magnussen » Former F1 team boss Colin Kolles has told Sport1. « Kevin came back after two years without driving in Formula 1 and was immediately better. And he’s not going to get worse either, he’s going to get better. »

Former driver Christian Danner agrees, admitting he thinks Schumacher’s accident was « the result of the pressure building up. In Kevin Magnussen, he now has a teammate who really shows him how high the bar is. What’s great is that he accepts the challenge. »

However, Danner admits that a big accident like the one in Jeddah is a setback for the young German: « But now it will be even more interesting to see how Mick takes on the challenge of beating his team-mate. He has to work his way up slowly because Magnussen is doing a great job. »

Mick’s uncle, Ralf Schumacher, agrees that the young man must “learning from Magnussen how to push the limit. What is clear is that Magnussen presents a different challenge to Mazepin. But he is only in his second year in F1 so he still has a lot to learn . »

Ralf, however, disagrees with Danner that the Jeddah accident will be a major setback for his nephew: « It was very violent, of course, but all racing drivers forget this kind of accident very quickly. »

« It’s also obvious that he’s in such great shape that it wasn’t too bad for him. It’s more of hurt pride, because he was on a fast lap and made a mistake. was a mistake with very annoying consequences, but the most important thing is of course that nothing happened to him. »
