Formula 1: Grosjean defends controversial Abu Dhabi final

For Romain Grosjean, Michael Masi made the right decision at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. deserved its title. Even if, still according to the Indycar driver, the Briton deserved victory in this last race.

Romain Grosjean “loved” the Abu Dhabi final

« I loved ! It was exciting, my heart was racing. And I think having two cars fighting on one lap for the World Championship was amazing. I think the wrong perception is to think that the World Championship was played over one lap. There have been 22 Grands Prix, and if you look at the full season you know that Max had the puncture in Baku, Valtteri Bottas crashed into Verstappen in Hungary, there was the Silverstone race. I think that in the end, if we look at how many points were lost by Verstappen, not necessarily his fault, he was the one who deserved the championship the most. On the Abu Dhabi race, Lewis deserved the championship more. He was unlucky on the last lap. But as a racing fan, I loved that last lap, and it was super exciting to watch.” Comments Romain Grosjean.

“There are many ways to look at it. It would have been very strange not to get those cars back on the lap and to have Lewis first and then Max four cars behind on a lap for the World Championship. On the other hand, for Lewis it was definitely not a great decision, but as a fan watching TV, as a spectator, for sport, I think Michael Masi made the right decision. I don’t think it would have been good for the championship to finish under the safety car. It wouldn’t have been nice to end up with the guys separated on the track, with first and second separated by a few cars.

A point of view which defends itself and which has the merit of taking the trend against the current. Michael Masi will no doubt appreciate this support, at a time when his ousting is on many lips.
