Formula 1 | Future McLaren driver, Palou will also test the MCL35M in 2023

Future McLaren driver, Palou will test (...)

Alex Palou will drive for McLaren next year, as the team announced overnight despite an imbroglio with Chip Ganassi Racing. The team has not confirmed Palou will race in IndyCar, but it is unlikely to see him in F1 or Formula E.

Indeed, McLaren’s press release explains that Palou will be testing the 2021 MCL35M alongside his role next year. This therefore means that his first tests in Formula 1 will be in parallel with what he will do, which will certainly not be F1.

Palou has a Superlicence, since he is the reigning IndyCar champion, but McLaren wants above all to offer him a drive within its TPC program. The latter involves the 2021 McLaren MCL35M, and already features runs for Pato O’Ward, McLaren IndyCar driver, and Colton Herta, Andretti driver who tested an F1 this week.

Palou is happy to join McLaren, although he is not yet talking about an IndyCar program. The Spaniard welcomes his future test in F1: « I am extremely excited to join the driver roster of such an iconic team like McLaren. »

« I can’t wait to be able to show what I can do behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car and see the doors it can open. I want to thank everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing for everything they have done for me. . »
