Formula 1 | Ferrari confirms limited development plan for Imola

It was expected but Ferrari will bring relatively small updates to Imola for its F1-75.

This was confirmed by test driver and Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene, who expects rivals to do the same.

The Emilia-Romagna GP weekend is indeed the first of three F1 Sprints in 2022, before those in Austria and Brazil.

The schedule allows for just one hour of practice before Friday afternoon’s qualifying session, limiting the time teams will have to perfect their settings.

“We decided not to bring so many evolutions because it will be a Sprint race on Saturday, there will only be one hour of free practice on Friday and therefore not much time to test new parts.

« I don’t know how the team will approach this. But as far as we are concerned, we prefer to focus only on the set-up on Friday during free practice. There, qualifying will take place right after. »

« Afterwards, I don’t expect to see teams making a lot of updates, » Gene continued.

« We prefer to focus on the settings to get this car as low as possible. The lower you can run the car without porpoising being an issue, of course, the more performance you have. »

With a perfect weekend (victory in the Sprint, victory in the Grand Prix and bonus point for the fastest lap in the race) the Monegasque could score 105 points at the end of the 4th round and 43 points ahead (at least) of his closest rival. It would be an F1 record.

« I like this scenario! We are very strong, it’s a very good start to the season. We couldn’t have started better. But Imola will be a completely different circuit. »

« First of all, it’s the first European track, so it will be very interesting to see if we can maintain this form. It can rain, so it’s a variable compared to what we’ve seen so far. , and we can’t take Max Verstappen out of the equation because he’s been a bit unlucky so far this season. »
