For the third time in as many editions, the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, which made its return to the F1 calendar in 2020, will see small changes made around the DRS.
The very fast Imola layout offers relatively few overtaking opportunities and contains only one DRS zone like few other circuits.
This is located on the start/finish straight and stops at the Tamburello bend, the second curve of the Italian track. The DRS activation point will be, like last year, 60 meters before the 19th and final corner.
The detection area has been changed. Previously located 20 meters before Rivazza 1 (turn 17), it is now 385 meters before the curve between the Variante Alta chicane and Rivazza 1.
Winner of the event last year, Max Verstappen admitted that he would have liked to see a second DRS zone added between Variante Alta and Rivazza 1.
« It would help a lot because you would be closer for the last two corners. You lose so much time in those that even if you activate the DRS a little earlier, you are not guaranteed to arrive in time at the corner. 1. »
