Formula 1 | De Vries forced to miss simulator tests ahead of Singapore

De Vries forced to miss his (...)

Nyck de Vries travels to Singapore next week where he could resume his role as replacement for Alex Albon at Williams F1.

The Dutchman was mobilized as a precaution because this Grand Prix is very difficult physically and Albon is recovering from appendicitis with post-operative complications.

The Dutchman, who is in the running for vacant seats at Williams but also Alpine and AlphaTauri for 2023, tested a 2021 Alpine in Hungary this week.

He was then en route to the UK for simulator testing at Williams before Singapore, but was unable to fly as UK regulations no longer allow travelers to use only a European ID card.

« UK trip canceled – I’m coming home instead, » he revealed on social media. Indeed his passport is currently at the Japanese Embassy, awaiting a visa.

A second consecutive race for Williams probably awaits de Vries, as Albon himself admitted this week that it would be « uncertain and difficult ».
