Formula 1: Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has confidence in the talent of Lance Stroll

Aston Martin team boss Mike Krack believes Lance Stroll is not getting the credit he deserves and is a very good driver.

« People underestimate how good Lance is – they think he’s only here because his dad owns the team and he’s the one who put him in the car, » he said. declared Krack to the website Forumla1.com.

« But you don’t do as well as him against a four-time world champion by accident, and you don’t win as many junior single-seater championships as him by accident either. »

The 23-year-old Stroll made his Formula 1 debut in 2017 driving for the Williams team. He is now a driver for Aston Martin, a team partly owned by his father Lawrence Stroll.

In 2021 Stroll was paired with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and next season he will have Fernando Alonso as his new team-mate at Aston Martin.

Stroll turned heads in his first season on the circuit when he finished third in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The then 18-year-old Montreal native became the youngest rookie to claim an F1 podium.

In his career, Stroll has three podiums and a lead position, which he managed to obtain at the Turkish Grand Prix in November 2020.

Looking towards Singapore

The Canadian is currently 18th in the driver standings with five points. He retired from a race for the very first time at the Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago.

Krack added that Stroll hasn’t always been put in a position to be successful on the track.

« It’s important to remember that Lance has never really had a winning car in Formula 1, a car in which he can show what he is capable of and to really put his talent to use, » said Krack.

« When Vettel joined the team people were saying Lance didn’t have a chance, but Lance performed incredibly well against a four-time world champion – their performances were similar. People believe the same now that Fernando is going to join the team, but let’s wait and see. Lance might surprise a few people,” Krack said.

The Singapore Grand Prix will take place on September 30.
