Formula 1 | American F1 success would be ‘bigger than Netflix’

The success of an American in F1 (...)

At the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Logan Sargeant will compete in EL1 for Williams F1. The director of the Circuit of the Americas, Bobby Epstein, is happy to have this spotlight on an American driver, but hopes that his compatriot will manage to start.

« It’s quite fantastic, but it will be even better when he participates on Sunday » Epstein told RACER. « It’s one of my goals to see that. It’s good to have an American racing team with Haas, but it pales in comparison to what could happen if an American driver wins. »

« I think the Americans will show some pride to have an American driver in F1, but I think there will be a lot of support if we have a winning driver in F1. There is a difference. »

« The real question is how exciting would it be to have a winning American pilot. I think it will take a few years, but that would definitely be a game-changer. It would be bigger than Netflix. »

Epstein hopes that other drivers from the USA will have the opportunity to arrive in F1, such as Colton Herta. However, that seems unlikely at the moment, as he is one of several drivers under contract with McLaren.

« Yes, you keep an eye on them. That’s the short answer. We watch them, and we know that as well as being great drivers, they will need a good car to be champions. »

“In the case of Herta, you have to hope that McLaren is more competitive or that they can have a Ferrari, a Red Bull or a Mercedes at the moment, so you also have to hope that the balance of power changes from time to time. «
