Formula 1 | Alpine F1: A new floor and ‘confidence’ for Singapore

Alpine F1: A new floor and (...)

Alpine F1 had a tough run at the Italian Grand Prix, with a dip in performance on Sunday that remains unexplained to this day. Alan Permane, the sporting director, wants to be reassuring for the rest of the season, starting with the next two races, during which the team will bring a whole new floor.

“We are 100% sure that this is an exception” Permane said. « We have a new floor coming to Singapore, it will bring a big step up in downforce and we will be back where we should be. »

The engineer is eager to discover the performance of the A522 with this new package: « We’re really looking forward to going there, especially to Suzuka, with this car. It’s going to be fun. »

Permane isn’t worried about Singapore’s bumps, despite Esteban Ocon’s concerns about porpoising: « I’m surprised he said the rebounds would be horrible because in general it’s a high-velocity thing and there’s not really high-velocity here. »

« I’m sure physically it will be very hard for them. It’s a long race, a hot race, but it’s been that way since it’s been on the calendar. I don’t know if it will be even harder . »

“I guess it will be a bit more difficult because the cars are quite stiff so it will be a long and physical race for them but they are fit guys, they will be fine for sure.
