Alex Albon has high hopes for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, after being « Rather satisfied » the performance of Williams F1 at Zandvoort on a circuit that did not necessarily suit him.
The Thai driver finished 12th on the winding and downforce-demanding route in the Netherlands, but the FW44 should be much more comfortable on the long straights of Monza.
Williams is indeed good on circuits that require a lot of top speed and on which it is difficult to overtake, and Albon hopes to add points to his total of units which currently stands at 4.
« Our FW44 should be quick on the Monza straights, » rejoices Albon.
« At Zandvoort we were using the maximum level of downforce but we were still fast on the straights, which can only mean good things for this weekend. »
By finishing 12th in the Netherlands, Albon was « Pretty satisfied. I feel like it was a good day on paper. We weren’t expecting much from the weekend, especially in the race, but everything went well. We were actually quite fast. «
« So I’m happy. It wasn’t points but we were close, and we were performing well with the medium tyre. The rest was a bit tricky. »
« There are a lot of ‘ifs’, ‘buts’ and ‘maybe’, but I think the intervention of the safety car somewhat ruined our end of the race: we found ourselves stuck behind the Mercedes with blue flags and it cost us time and then everyone decided to pit. But I’m pretty happy. »
