Formula 1 | After the W Series, what new challenge for champion Jamie Chadwick?

Jamie Chadwick recently won a second straight W Series title, making the development driver Williams assert herself as one of the best female drivers in the world. But isn’t her career also likely to stagnate in the 100% female series? Shouldn’t he try another challenge?

Titled in Austin, Chadwick of course enjoys this title won in Texas…

“I feel good – I feel like I’ve started to come back to earth and have my feet on the ground now. And yes, I am really happy to have obtained this second title. «

In Austin, moreover, Jamie was able to talk to George Russell, a Williams pilot too; What did the conversation between the best male driver and the best female driver on the Grove team come down to?

“I spend a lot of time with George off the track. It’s good to see him there and obviously the whole Williams team. It’s good to have the support of these guys, I think a lot of the success I’ve had this year is because of their support. It’s great to have that under the podium. «

Chadwick has also already signed a podium in Extreme E and had even signed four podiums and a pole in F3 Asia in 2019-2020, finishing behind a certain Nikita Mazepin. Jamie has also tested in WEC in Bahrain, and continues his work as a development pilot at Williams.

She certainly has talent but what next? Why not the F2 or the F3?

“The W Series, what they gave me was huge and obviously the second year was a step forward and with the Superlicence points it was a no-brainer to come back as I couldn’t get anything else. «

“So far this series has been amazing for me, it has given me huge opportunities, but for the future I have to move on and find a new challenge. «

“There are conversations that have taken place. I think on my side there was so much focus on the Austin weekend that I tried not to put anything in danger until the weekend. So now the conversations are definitely opening … «

« There’s a little bit of responsibility on my side to do the best job I can in what I’ll do next – represent the W Series – but it’s great that the opportunities are there now and I hope we can do something. » next year which really shows how useful the playoffs have been for me. «

Does it feel legitimate for a Williams tub in the medium term? Or even for a real test, like in Abu Dhabi at the end of the year?

» We will see. I definitely want to get in the car at some point and have the opportunity to test, you know, in Formula 1. I think the main thing is to find the best options. The W Series, although it is an extraordinary step – an extraordinary platform that will allow me, I hope, to move towards bigger and better things – relatively speaking, it is still a very big step forward that is to be done if we are talking about Formula 1. «

“I can’t ignore the fact that it does and that I need to prepare better before testing Formula 1, but if I think I can try to get into a Formula 1 ‘feeder-series’ , for example … that will be my goal for next year. «
