Who is Guanyu Zhou?
The Shanghai-born driver was part of the Ferrari Drivers Academy for four years starting in 2014 before joining the Renault Young Drivers Team in 2019.
Zhou, a highly regarded Formula 2 prospect, is currently second behind fellow Alpine junior Oscar Piastri in the 2021 standings.
He has won three races this year and enjoys significant financial support, as Zhou’s arrival is expected to attract more Chinese sponsors to the sport.
Giovinazzi, who joined Alfa Romeo in 2019, has finished only eight times in the top 10 and his exit leaves F1 unmanned by Italy.
Zhou signed an agreement to race for Alfa Romeo in 2022 and replace Giovinazzi.
