Football: two new Guadeloupeans at the Bleues

Corinne Deacon, the coach of the France team, announced Thursday her list of players summoned for the next friendly matches, against Germany and Sweden. In this list, five ultramarines, including two new ones: Lyndsey Thomas and Laurina Fazer.

Corinne Deacon announced, this Thursday, September 29, her list of 23 players selected to face Germany and Sweden in a friendly. Les Bleues will start with a trip to Germany on Friday 7 October. During the last Euro, this same German team had beaten them in the semi-finals (2-1). Then, direction Gothenburg, to challenge Sweden, another semi-finalist of the Euro, on Tuesday October 11th.

These two meetings are part of the preparation of the French team for the 2023 World Cup, scheduled in Australia.

At 18, Laurina Fazer, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, will discover Les Bleues for the two friendly matches in October. Trained at PSG, the young player experienced all categories of young people with the France team before finding the A.

Elected best hopeful player in the French D1 championship last season, she was until then captain of the U20s of Les Bleues.

Another new face, Lyndsey Thomas. The 27-year-old Saint-Claudienne, who started football at AJSS des Saintes, is rewarded for her good start to the season with AC Milan in Italy.

After her professional debut in Montpellier, the Guadeloupean passed by the Girondins de Bordeaux and the SCO Dijon had discovered the Italian championship in 2019 with AS Roma. Selected several times, in the young France team, she had never known the joys of a selection with the A.

For this gathering, Corinne Deacon had to compose her group of 23 with many injuries. Three ultramarines, all three players from Olympique Lyonnais, are present in the group. Martiniquaise Wendie Renard, captain of OL, absent from the September list, finds Les Bleues. The defender with 136 caps is one of the favorites for the Ballon d’Or.

Guadeloupe’s Delphine Cascarino will also be there. At 25, the Olympique Lyonnais winger already has 47 selections for the France team and is establishing herself as a part of the French selection. At Clairefontaine, she will meet another of her Lyon teammates in the person of Melvine Malard. The 22-year-old Reunionese should take advantage of the absence of Marie-Antoinette Katoto to distinguish herself and score points in the eyes of the coach for the World Cup. As for the Guadeloupe Sandy Baltimore, she hasn’t been called.

Our five ultramarines have an appointment on October 7 and 11 for the two friendly matches, against Germany and Sweden.
