Football – Swiss Cup: Yverdon feat, Servette carefree in half
Swiss Cup: feat of Yverdon, Servette without worry in half

Samdy Maendly scored twice against Thun.

Superb performance from Yverdon. The Nord-Vaudoises, who have won only one of their first eleven league matches, have climbed into the last four of the Swiss Cup. They won on penalties on Saturday against Saint-Gall, which remained on a convincing success at Grasshopper and which aligned from the kick-off the two neophytes in the national team Eva Bachmann and Serena Li Puma. Insufficient, however, to find the flaw in the Yverdon defense.
After 120 minutes of play without the nets shaking, the two teams embarked on an endless series of penalties: the first 19 attempts were converted and it was finally the Saint-Galloise Naja Glanzmann who cracked (9-10 ). A qualification for the semi-finals which should do a lot of good for Frédéric Davoli’s proteges in their quest to stay in the elite. The draw for the semi-finals will take place on March 1 and could reserve a Roman derby for us.
Serene Chênois Servette
Indeed, Servette Chênois did not stumble in Thun, against the leader of LNB. The Genevans were able to count on an omnipresent Sandy Maendly. Super League’s best player in 2021 has been in all the right moves. Involved in the four big chances of her team in the first period, she offered herself a double which allowed her team to fly over the debates. The Swiss international was first at the conclusion of a very good cross from Jade (14th). Then, she got rid of the opposing marking to go and mystify the opposing door (36th).
That said, Eric Sévérac’s team did not have an easy task and approached this trap match conscientiously. She made her technical superiority speak by developing great collective actions, like the one that landed on the Bernese post (75th). The Thounoises will for their part regret a faulty intervention not whistled in the Geneva area (63rd). Because, in the next minute, Natalia Padilla in turn took advantage of an offering from Jade to knock out the best team in the lower echelon (64th). This one never recovered and Ilona Guede was able to drive the point home.
Servette is now just two wins away from becoming the third French-speaking club to lift the Swiss Cup, after Yverdon in 2010 and 2011 and DFC Sion in 1976 and 1977.
