Portugal took the lead in Group 2 of the League of Nations thanks to their wide success in the Czech Republic (4-0) on Saturday, during the 5th day. Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates are two points ahead of the Spaniards, beaten in Zaragoza by Switzerland (2-1), before the clash against La Roja on Tuesday in Braga, which will send one of the two teams to the Final Four (June 2023).
In Prague, CR7 was hit in the nose in the 13th minute after an aerial collision with Czech goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik. The Portuguese captain, who took both of his opponent’s fists in the face, bled profusely from the nose and had to be treated for a few minutes before returning to his place.
Lacking playing time in the club and surely disturbed by this episode, the Portuguese star did not seem to have a great evening, notably missing a ball on a center back (23rd), then conceding a penalty after touching the ball of the hand on a Czech corner. An error ultimately without consequence since Patrik Schick missed his attempt (45 + 5).
Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s Manchester United teammates have done the job. Diogo Dalot opened the scoring (1-0, 33rd), then Bruno Fernandes doubled the lead (2-0, 45+2). Dalot scored twice with a curling shot (3-0, 52nd) before Diogo Jota made the score worse (4-0, 82nd), extending a first header from Ronaldo with a header.
