Football – FC Barcelona awards Messi’s No. 10 to Ansu Fati
A heavy legacy to bear: Lionel Messi’s iconic N.10 has been awarded to the young prodigy of FC Barcelona Ansu Fati (18), announced the Catalan club on Wednesday on its social networks.
Currently in the recovery phase after his fracture of the meniscus of the left knee that occurred almost a year ago, in November 2020, Ansu Fati appeared in a video broadcast by Barça on his social networks, where he is seen waving and then putting on a jersey decorated with the N.10, formerly owned by the Argentinian.
A number that other legends wore before Messi, like the Brazilians Ronaldinho, Rivaldo or Romario.
This attribution thus puts an end to the speculations which said that the N.10 of the Argentinian « chip », transferred to Paris Saint-Germain at the beginning of August, was going to be withdrawn by Barça in tribute to the best player in the history of the club.
Griezmann’s number 7 for Dembélé
But it is the young Spanish international Ansu Fati who will inherit it. The new jewel from the highly regarded Catalan training center of « La Masia » made its first-team debut in 2019, at just 16 years old.
In the process, FC Barcelona unveiled on Wednesday all the numbers that its players will wear this season, indicating that it is the other French striker of Barça Ousmane Dembélé who will recover the N.7 of Antoine Griezmann, returned to Atlético Madrid on the verge of the end of the transfer window, on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
The other Catalan recruit sealed in the night, the Dutch center forward transferred from Sevilla FC Luuk de Jong, will wear the N.17.
