Football England – Cristiano Ronaldo’s real salary unveiled, MU holds back tears

Starting late in the case, Manchester United finally managed to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford last summer. But while the transfer fee paid to Juventus is quite low, his salary, on the other hand, weighs heavily on the Premier League club’s finances.

At the end of the transfer window, Cristiano Ronaldo headed straight for Manchester United’s great rival: City. The Red Devils then took the necessary steps to allow the Portuguese star to make his comeback at Old Trafford. The story is beautiful. But it comes at a cost. Cristiano Ronaldo, bought only 23 ME from Juventus, is on the other hand the highest paid player in the Premier League. It now costs 650,000 euros … per week. And Manchester United also broke the piggy bank for Jadon Sancho and Raphaël Varane. Ed Woodward wanted to be reassuring about the club’s finances. “The financial results today demonstrate our resilience through the pandemic, our top priority is success on the ground. The manager, the players and everyone at the club are determined to achieve this goal ”, assured the general manager of Manchester United. The Mirror nevertheless allows itself to take stock of the consequent increase in the wage bill.

Payroll up 23%, the CR7 effect

According to information from the English media, the wage bill has increased by 1.5 ME per week since the end of August. During the previous quarter, all salaries climbed to more than 90 ME, which represents an increase of almost 20 ME, 23% more than in the three months preceding the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United still has enough to compensate a little thanks in particular to the transfers of Daniel James to Leeds, and Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, on which the Red Devils received money. With the audience returning, match day income also increased by 16%. In short, Manchester United seems to have calculated his move anyway. It now remains to perform on the field, which has not really been the case since the start of the season.
