Beth Mead (27) has been voted sports personality of the year in England by the BBC. The Arsenal and England striker is the first female footballer to be awarded.
Mead, victim at the end of November of a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee, is currently far from the grounds. Second in the Ballon d’Or, she had greatly contributed to the victory of the English during the Euro at home this summer. She had been named best player and had scored 6 goals, like the German Alexandra Popp.
Beth Mead preceded England cricket captain Ben Stokes and Olympic curling champion Eve Muirhead.
