Football: A PSG shock

The two leaders of D1 will meet in Paris on January 30 for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. A shock and a game apart.

It’s the hard law of the draw. Within a French Football Federation behind closed doors, it was chance that decided to pit the two giants of women’s football against each other, namely Paris-Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais.

A complicated qualification for one, a formality for the other

Two matches, two atmospheres for the two clubs in 16th. Paris-Saint-Germain were opposed to Dijon, 8th of D1 Arkéma, and the least we can say is that the Parisiennes have had a hard time. They ended up winning on penalties after a meeting far from reassuring. On the other side, it was quieter for the Lyonnaises. They won 4-0 at Bordeaux, thanks in particular to a brace from captain Wendie Renard and a goal from Ada Hegerberg.

PSG have revenge to take

It is therefore with more or less confidence that the two teams will compete for a place in the quarter-finals. However, it remains a real clash between Parisian champions of France in title and Lyonnaises, current 1time of D1. The match will also have a taste of revenge for PSG, slapped 6-1 in their first confrontation of the season against OL on November 14. Among the other matches, it is worth highlighting the complicated receptions ahead for the two clubs of 3th division still in contention, Calais and Monaco, which respectively host Rodez (D2) and Reims (D1).
