Finally a victory for the TFC

Toronto FC scored more than one goal in a game to claim victory for the first time this season, beating DC United 2-1 at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon.

In two losses and a draw this year in Major League Soccer (MLS), the « Reds » had never hit the target more than once.

It was obviously the missing ingredient since Bob Bradley’s men no longer looked back after taking the lead in the 53rd minute of play.

Jonathan Osorio scored the net in spectacular fashion by taking over by diving and with the toe of the ball centered at the far post by Luca Petrasso. Alejandro Pozuelo had shaken the ropes half an hour earlier, opening his counter this season.

Russell Canouse put DC United on the board in the 10th minute with a long header diversion.

Silenced Champions

Perhaps still reeling from qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League semi-finals, New York City FC were left unanswered against the Philadelphia Union, who won 2-0 at the Yankee Stadium.

As recently as Tuesday, the defending MLS champion advanced to the next round of the intercontinental competition despite a surprising 4-2 loss in the second match against Comunicaciones, in Guatemala.

With little gas in the tank, the representatives of the Big Apple quickly came under attack from the Union. Alejandro Bedoya and Daniel Gazdag scored before the 33rd minute and Andre Blake had just three saves to make.

Philadelphia is still undefeated this season, posting a record of three wins and a draw.

In Ohio, FC Cincinnati won a second game in a row by beating Inter Miami CF 3-1. Ronald Matarrita amassed a goal and was an accomplice to Brandon Vazquez’s two successes. Gonzalo Higuain was the visitors’ only scorer, on a penalty shot.
