At 37, Filipe Albuquerque is one of the drivers who can definitely claim a place in a Hypercar prototype. We saw him everywhere in the WEC, but the Portuguese will continue the adventure in the WEC at United Autosports with the ambition of seeking a second world crown in 2023 after that of 2019/2020. That’s not all since an IMSA program in GTP (Hypercar in WEC) awaits him on the brand new Acura ARX-06 entered by Wayne Taylor Racing.
All eyes are on the 24 Hours of Daytona which will mark the debut of the GTP class. Before that, the native of Coimbra is riding this weekend on his land in Estoril. No prototype in the program but a Caterham. A little fun to end the year 2022 well before attacking a busy 2023 program.

With a Roar Before the Rolex 24 followed by the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, Filipe Albuquerque’s 2023 season will get off to a flying start. If in past years the double winner of the event could count on the reliability of the DPi prototypes, the situation will be different in two months with the debut of the GTP category. “We are still in full development of the Acura ARX-06 knowing that it is coming to an end”says driver Wayne Taylor Racing. The first race will happen quickly and that’s when we will know the level of each. Endurance has been waiting for so many manufacturers in the premier class for a very long time. We have to wait for Daytona to see who will be competitive. »
Acura, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche chained the kilometers on the Daytona International Speedway. Will this be enough? Filipe Albuquerque has an idea on the matter: “I think Daytona will smile to whoever has a minimum of glitches and not necessarily whoever is the fastest. If we have to come in and lose several laps, I’m afraid it’s over for the win. Reliability will be key, but this 2023 season looks more than promising. »
Filipe Albuquerque will contest the entire IMSA season with Ricky Taylor in the Acura ARX-06 LMDh with the reinforcement of Brendon Hartley and Louis Delétraz at Daytona. The Swiss will compete in the long races in the Acura (Daytona, Sebring, Road Atlanta). Wayne Taylor Racing is aiming for a sixth success on the Rolex 24 next January.
