FIA announces « detailed analysis » after the crazy end of the championship between Hamilton and Verstappen

The last Formula 1 season may have ended last December with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but it still gets people talking. In a statement, the International Automobile Federation announced the start of a « detailed analysis » of the events that occurred. A discussion on the safety car will also take place.

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton were awaiting a thorough investigation by the International Automobile Federation, concerning the events which led to the loss of the Englishman’s world title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the two parties have been heard.

This Thursday, the FIA published a press release in which it announced that the new boss of the body intends to carefully study what happened in the United Arab Emirates: « Following the decision of the World Motor Sport Council to Paris on December 15, 2021, the FIA, under the direction of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, has begun a detailed analysis of the events related to the last Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Formula 1.

The use of the safety car, future subject of discussion

The measurements don’t stop there. Last December, the use of the safety car after the accident of pilot Nicholas Latifi was debated.

In order to dispel the vagueness surrounding this process, the FIA announces that it will be subject to discussion, in particular with the drivers: « The president of the FIA launched a consultation with all the F1 teams on several subjects. On January 19, a point will be done during the FIA Sporting Committee on the use of the safety car. The next step will be a joint discussion with the F1 drivers. »

Regarding the results of the investigation, these will be released shortly: « The result of this detailed analysis will be presented to the F1 Commission in February and the final decisions will be announced at the World Motor Sport Council in Bahrain on March 18.  » Note that the resumption of the Formula will take place on this date until March 20.
