Ferrari launches its first SUV, called « Purosangue »

It’s a revolution: Ferrari unveiled this Tuesday, September 13, 2022 an unexpected new model, the Purosangue (thoroughbred in Italian). This is the first SUV of the prestigious Italian brand, reports BFM TV. Ferrari thus adapts to the competition: Lamborghini already offers its Urus since 2018, and Aston Martin has its DBXwhich is even more powerful.

The most powerful SUV

With Purosangue, Ferrari offers the first 4-door vehicle in its range. The prancing horse brand is more accustomed to providing sports cars which, if they can offer two seats in the back, do not allow the passenger to benefit from a dedicated door. The originality of the Ferrari solution is to offer antagonistic doors. This allows « to facilitate access to the rear while preserving the compact appearance of this new model » can we read in the press release of the brand, relayed by our colleagues. The trunk is generous with a capacity of 473 litres.

But it is not because it is a family vehicle that Ferrari forgets its DNA. SUV stands for Sport Utility Vehicle. Thus, the engine is a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that develops 725 horsepower. That’s 75 more than theUrus and twenty more than the DBX of Aston Martin. It is therefore a record for the category, the precedent being held by the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk 717 horsepower, precise turbo .

Market launch in the second quarter of 2023

On the performance side, the SUV achieves a 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a 0 to 200 km/h in 10.6 seconds. If you never stop pressing the accelerator, you will be able to reach more than 310 km/h. It is still necessary to have acquired this vehicle. Ferrari has not communicated any prices for the Purosangue, but the order book is already full. The “thoroughbred” could be sold for €400,000 without the options, according to BFM TV.

The first deliveries should take place in the second quarter of 2023. This SUV should not represent more than 20% of the Italian brand’s vehicle sales.
