F1 – What if in the end Mercedes made fun of Ferrari?
If it was long thought that the constructors’ title would necessarily be played between Red Bull and Ferrari, doubt is now allowed with the rise of Mercedes. Two Grand Prix from the end of the season, the German team could thus climb to Abu Dhabi on the second final step of the podium!
At the end of the Mexican Grand Prix, Ferrari was only 40 points ahead of Mercedes in the provisional constructors’ classification thanks to the second place of Lewis Hamilton and the fourth of George Russell, when Sainz and Leclerc only finished respectively 5th and 6th in the race. 487 points for the Italian team against 447 for the Germanin other words that the dice are not cast when there are only two races left to compete in this 2022 season. In the worst-case scenario for the Maranello team, Toto Wolff’s team could even regain second place at the end of the next Brazilian Grand Prix which will take place on Sunday 13 November.
A little pepper
Of course, this is only a mathematical hypothesis and to count 40 more points on the clock with only two GPs remaining is a comfortable lead. Especially since Ferrari has already won four times this season (and 18 podiums) against… 0 victory for Mercedes which has been on the podium 15 times in 2022. Nevertheless, nothing is yet decided for the title of vice-world champion of the constructors, like this same accessit on the side of the pilots, which gives a little spice to the end of season which, without it, would have been sorely lacking.
