Dane Kevin Magnussen, recalled in extremis by Haas to compete in the 2022 season, surprised by setting the best time on the second day of the second Formula 1 winter tests at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain on Friday.
The performance of the replacement for the Russian Nikita Mazepin, ousted following the invasion of Ukraine, is however to be taken with a grain of salt: his time was set after 7:00 p.m. local (5:00 p.m. French) in a freshness more favorable to speed. The competition had already returned to the garage, Haas having obtained the authorization to drive later to make up for its morning missed Thursday because of a delay in the routing of its freight. On the side of McLaren, the Briton Lando Norris replaced again the Australian Daniel Ricciardo, ill but who should take the wheel again on Saturday.
These tests continue for one last day, before the first Grand Prix of the season on the same circuit next week. Montmelo, near Barcelona, hosted a first test session from February 23-25, dominated by Mercedes ahead of Red Bull.
