Europe: a Ligue 1 rich in goals!

« A good old 0-0 Ligue 1 ». The French championship has often had the label, sometimes rightly, of a boring competition due to the unattractive play offered by many teams. It’s hard to say the same about this start of the season. As La Gazzetta dello Sport pointed out on Tuesday, the L1 posted an average of 2.95 goals scored per game in this 2021-2022 financial year (233 goals in 79 games).

This statistic places Ligue 1 on the podium among the top five leagues in Europe, behind Italian Serie A (3.23 goals) and the German Bundesliga (2.98 goals). At the moment, the English Premier League (2.63 goals) and the Spanish Liga (2.37 goals) are less prolific.

Since the start of the season, there have only been three 0-0 (Nice-Reims, Reims-Lorient, Angers-Marseille) in eight L1 matches.
