Ergin Ataman in the NBA?
Turkish coach Ergin Ataman, who has just won the last two editions of the Euroleague with Anadolu Efes, could well make the leap into the NBA. Indeed, according to Woj he would have emerged as a candidate to become an assistant coach in the big league. The 56-year-old coach, who has also been in charge of Turkey for a few weeks, would obviously have several opportunities. For the moment we do not know the interested franchises, but he would join a short list of Europeans to have been assistants in the NBA.
In Europe he won what was best, in addition to two Euroleagues, he was coach of the year in the Euroleague last season, he won the Saporta cup, the EuroChallenge, the EuroCup, and has 5 league titles in Turkey with Besiktas, Galatassaray and Efes. He also coached Turkey from 2014 to 2016, without much success.
One of Europe’s most accomplished coaches – Turkey’s Ergin Ataman – is surfacing as a candidate for assistant coaching jobs in the NBA, sources tell ESPN. Ataman, the Turkish national coach, has won back-to-back EuroLeague titles with Anadolu Efes.
