EA Sports removed Patrick Kane from video game coverage NHL 16 after police confirmed last week that the Chicago Blackhawks star was the subject of an investigation.

Kane was slated to be featured on the cover along with teammate Jonathan Toews.

EA Sports stated that « due to the ongoing investigation involving Patrick Kane, he will no longer be a spokesperson for the EA Sports game launch. NHL 16« .

The company has indicated that Kane will no longer be on the cover of the game and will not participate in any promotional events. The new image on the cover will only represent Toews lifting the Stanley Cup.

Hamburg Police confirmed last week that they were investigating an incident that allegedly took place at Kane’s home in suburban Buffalo on August 2. Police Chief Gregory Wickett mentioned that officers were gathering information and awaiting forensic test results.

A person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Monday that the investigation surrounded an incident that allegedly occurred between Kane and a woman in her twenties. The person spoke on condition of anonymity as authorities have not disclosed any details about the investigation.

Kane is from Buffalo and was selected by the Blackhawks first in the 2007 draft. He has helped the Blackhawks win three Stanley Cup titles in the past six seasons, including last spring.

NHL 16 will be available in North America starting September 15th.

Kane was also featured on the cover of the game in 2009.
