Djordje Mihailovic named MVP
Midfielder Djordje Mihailovic received CF Montreal’s MVP on Tuesday, while defenseman Rudy Camacho took home the Defensive Player of the Year trophy.
Chosen following a vote by the club’s season subscribers, Mihailovic and Camacho received 80% and 58% of the votes respectively. The ballot was conducted from November 16 to 20.
Mihailovic, who won the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy, collected 16 assists, just two short of Major League Soccer (MLS) leader in 2021, Carles Gil (18), of the Revolution de la New England.
The American also became the second player in franchise history to play every MLS game this season. In 32 starts, he has totaled 2,805 minutes of play, a team high this season. Mihailovic also scored four goals and completed 118 corner kicks, another CF Montreal record in MLS.
Also, in the season summary, Mihailovic said he greatly appreciated the campaign, even if it ended with an exclusion from the MLS playoffs.
“Obviously I could have done a bit more, but I really enjoyed my game. […] The team here is based on the collective and not the individual, he said in a press briefing. The head coach’s way [Wilfried Nancy] helped me and his philosophy allowed us to build something. ”
Back next year
The 23-year-old athlete admitted: he will not stay in the Quebec metropolis for his entire career. In the short term, however, the fans of the team need not worry.
“I have never been embarrassed to say that my goal is to evolve in Europe,” he said. When the right time and the right situation arise for me and the organization, we will discuss it. Rudy Camacho: no return in sight
Named CF Montreal defender par excellence in 2021, Rudy Camacho will not return with the club in 2022, he who completed a fourth season with the organization.
