Detroit Red Wings sign Wyatt Newpower to one-year contract

The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Wyatt Newpower to a one-year contract.
The 25-year-old has spent the past two years with the Grand Rapids Griffins, giving the team a physical presence. Newpower had seven points in 59 games and another 10 last season.
Newpower has 27 career AHL points coming off a 10-point campaign with Cleveland in 2020-21. Before turning pro, the Univ. of the Connecticut product spent four years in college, earning top defensive defenseman honors in Hockey East action in 2019-20.
The Griffins came in 30th out of 32 teams in 2022-23, easily missing the playoffs. Newpower will likely return there full-time in 2023-24 with no NHL games under its belt.
