DeAndre Yedlin returns home

Inter Miami CF have made a great move by securing defender DeAndre Yedlin, who will be making his first return to Major League Soccer (MLS) since 2014.

The 28-year-old right-back agreed on Wednesday for four seasons with the Florida club, which also has an option for the 2026 campaign. Miami signed Yedlin thanks to the first-tier allocation in MLS.

The American, who is best known for his speed, used a stellar debut with the Seattle Sounders to earn the opportunity to play in Europe. After rising through the academy ranks at the Washington State club, he transferred to Tottenham in the English Premier League.

Yedlin had a short stint at Sunderland before being acquired by Newcastle United, where he played an important role for five seasons. After playing time became scarce for him in England, he turned to Turkey, where he played around 20 games with the renowned Galatasaray. His contract was bought out recently and rumors of a return to the fold quickly flared up.

“I’m thrilled that we were able to bring a player of DeAndre’s quality to Inter Miami. He is a very talented, exciting and dynamic player on the pitch, and an experience winner who will bring positive things to our locker room and improve our training, ”said sports director Chris Henderson in a press release.

The defender has been a national team regular since his debut in 2014. He has made 71 appearances for the United States, most recently in 2022 World Cup qualifying.
