DAZN in talks to buy UK Premier League co-broadcaster BT Sport

Big maneuvers in the pay sports television world. Often billed as « the Netflix of sports, » DAZN (pronounced « Da Zone »), the sports streaming service owned by Ukrainian-born Anglo-American billionaire Len Blavatnik, is in advanced talks to purchase the sports television unit of BT, BT Sport, co-broadcaster with Sky and Amazon of the Premier League in the UK, reports the Financial Times, Tuesday.

For BT, all options remain on the table

DAZN President Kevin Mayer said last week that he was  » may be «  interested in BT Sport, saying at a TV industry conference that he « Would like to have the Premier League » and that BT Sport was a  » big business « .

A BT spokesperson said the UK company continued to explore options for BT Sport and all options remained on the table, including a full or partial sale or retention of the business. The case is not simple. BT has a cross-licensing agreement with Sky, controlled by the American Comcast, and must consult its partner before any decision.
