On the last episode of Daily face-to-face liveTyler Yaremchuk and Mike McKenna discussed their wishlist for the second half of the season, starting with the Western Conference.
Tyler Yaremchuk: It’s basically mid-season and that’s what we’d like to see in the second half in the Western Conference.
In the Western Conference, what would you like to see happen in the last 41 games?
Mike McKenna: I like a bit of chaos in terms of entertainment value and would love to see the Vancouver Canucks go on an absolute heat-up Tyler. And I think that’s partly because Bruce Boudreau has been under fire in Vancouver for a lot of the season and the team has been playing better lately. They’ve kind of been in between, but the terrible start to the year is what still seems to stick in people’s minds.
They’re not an absolutely atrocious team in Vancouver, they’re 26th overall but they’re very middling. I wonder if Thatcher Demko comes back and catches fire. Or what if this club suddenly starts playing like it did last year under Bruce for the second half of the season?
And what really happens if Vancouver sells all of its parts? What if they get rid of Horvat, Boeser, Myers, Garland, Schenn who knows, and they still end up winning? What about Boudreau, who is at the end of his contract, he is also fighting for his job. So, for me, it’s a team that can go for Connor Bedard, but they’re way off right now because, like I said, they’re 26th overall. Unlikely to get the first pick in the draft.
But if they sell those coins and they keep winning, what do you do? And I love that, because to me it’s intriguing and it would only spice up the West, Tyler.
